Scientists affiliated with the National Research Platform for Zoonoses welcome the announcement made yesterday during the G7 Ministerial Meeting by the Ministers of Health, Education and Research, and Food and Agriculture to further strengthen zoonotic disease research and the One Health approach in Germany.
The news comes just in time for the National Symposium on Zoonosis Research, where on October 15th and 16th, 2015, in Berlin, scientists and government representatives from human and veterinary medicine, along with representatives from public health services, will come together to discuss current scientific findings and research goals, plan new projects, and promote exchange between research and practice.
Background
National Research Platform for Zoonoses
Research on zoonoses — infectious diseases that can be transmitted between animals and humans — takes place in Germany at various locations and institutions: at universities and federal institutes, in small workgroups, and in large consortia. In this field, the knowledge and experience of both human and veterinary medical professionals, as well as infectious disease biologists and scientists from other disciplines, are of great importance. Therefore, it is necessary for all researchers in this field to collaborate closely.
The National Research Platform for Zoonoses, supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, enables and supports this networking. The platform's task is to link basic biomedical research with human and veterinary medicine more closely to make zoonoses research in Germany more effective. The Zoonoses Platform is jointly supported by the University of Münster, the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (Riems location), and the TMF.
