"The events of recent weeks, especially the Digital Summit of the Federal Government, have impressively demonstrated that digitization in healthcare is gaining new momentum." This was stated by Sebastian C. Semler (TMF) at the opening of TELEMED 2017, taking place today and tomorrow at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the Federal Government in Berlin.

"Several ministries – the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) – have recognized the importance of the issue and have set ambitious goals for the future. It is gratifying that medical research is also being addressed in this context and that the university sector is perceived as an important player in the digitization of healthcare. Much can be expected for the near future – with a lot of tailwind, momentum can now be gained," emphasized Semler, who introduced the program as Chairman of the TELEMED Program Committee.

Key topics of the first day include progress in implementing the milestones in the E-Health Act and aspects of standardization and interoperability, without which a comprehensive digital infrastructure for healthcare cannot be implemented.

Tomorrow, Friday's focus will initially be on initiatives in telemedicine and health telematics in Bavaria. "The state of Bavaria is taking important steps with its initiative to do more for the data access of its citizens and the use of data for the benefit of Bavarian healthcare, with projects such as a health data center and an electronic patient record. In addition to Bavarian approaches, other approaches to electronic patient records in health insurance companies and university medicine based on the Medical Informatics Initiative will be discussed. There will also be insights into the upcoming e-health legislation in the next legislative period and contributions that focus on the contribution digitization can make to personalized medicine.

Participation in the event with on-site registration is still possible at short notice.

TELEMED Brief Info

TELEMED 2017 is jointly organized by the Professional Association of Medical Informatics (BVMI), the TMF - Technology and Methods Platform for Networked Medical Research, the German Society for Health Telematics (DGG), and with the participation of the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS).

TELEMED, as the National Forum for Health Telematics and Telemedicine in Germany, provides a platform for application-oriented scientific dialogue between users, providers, research institutions, universities, and health policy. It was the first event in Germany to focus on health telematics and telemedicine from the outset. It was launched in 1996 as an initiative of the BVMI State Representation Berlin-Brandenburg together with the Free University of Berlin. In 2004, the conference was further developed into today's National Forum for Health Telematics and Telemedicine, jointly with the TMF and the DGG. Since then, numerous partners have been involved in the conference's program committee.
