The TMF facilitates dialogue between research, politics, and society. It advocates for reliable framework conditions, sustainable funding, and the expansion of digital infrastructures to enable medical innovation and ensure future-ready healthcare for patients.

Through its members and cooperation partners, the TMF brings together a broad range of scientific expertise, connects numerous university and non-university research institutions, and serves as a bridge across the healthcare sector. It represents the interests of collaborative medical research in legislative processes, in its engagement with ministries, at the international level, and in public debate.

The Coordination Group for Health Research Data Infrastructures (GFDI) promotes transparency regarding existing and planned infrastructures, facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experience, develops a coordinated approach, and establishes a model for the use of health-related data.

National Digital Health Symposium (NDHS)

The digital transformation of healthcare is a key driver of innovation, efficiency, and improved patient care. In particular, the use of health data, artificial intelligence, and interoperable IT infrastructures enables new forms of a learning health system. The TMF’s National Digital Health Symposium (NDHS) is an annual cross-sector forum for jointly exploring and discussing the infrastructure and framework conditions needed to advance digitalization in research and healthcare delivery.

Innovation Paper

In a joint position paper, the TMF, the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (vfa), and the German Medical Technology Association (BVMed) call for concrete measures to strengthen Germany’s position as a leading hub for health research and innovation. The focus is on improving structures for translation and knowledge transfer, for example through translational centers at university hospitals, digital data platforms, and new partnership models.

The TMF's Impulses for the 2025 Federal Election

Over the past quarter-century, extensive expertise and experience have been developed, research infrastructures and processes have been established, and experts have been attracted and integrated. In light of the upcoming federal election, the TMF is formulating priorities and demands based on this expertise to strengthen research in Germany, fully leverage the potential of digitalization in healthcare, and promote translation between research and industry.
