Workgroup Registries
Standards and Networking of Medical-Scientific Registries
Medical-scientific registries are both a method and a tool. They fulfill a variety of tasks in health care and quality research and have experienced a steady increase in importance in recent years.
Workgroup Biobanks
Infrastructure and Framework Conditions for Biobanks
Centralized clinical biobanks are the central link between patient care and biomedical research. Population-based biobanks form the basis for the clarification of disease predispositions. The Biobanks Workgroup has set itself the task of creating a broad forum for all types of biobanking.
Workgroup Data Protection
Focus on Data Protection and Security Issues
The Data Protection Workgroup advises research associations and projects on data protection issues, particularly the creation of data protection concepts. The basis for this is, therefore, the generic solution approaches for data protection concepts developed by the workgroup, which are in tune with the federal and state data protection officers.
Workgroup Data Quality and Transparency
Data Quality and Transparency in Medical Research
Scientific results are only as good as the studies and data on which they are based. Numerous aspects of structural, process, and result quality determine what constitutes high data quality, from study planning to data analysis. On the one hand, there are numerous points of reference in medicine, such as good epidemiological practice, good clinical practice, and good secondary data analysis practice. On the other hand, successful implementation fails too often, as shown by the existing criticism of the practice of medical research and the reporting of research results.
Workgroup IT Infrastructure and Quality Management
Supporting Workflows and Ensuring Quality
The workgroup's goal is to support workflows in medical research projects through the use of information technologies and to contribute to the high quality of processes and results. Its work focuses on IT support for clinical studies, biobanks, epidemiological projects for linking research and care, and for registers. The workgroup also monitors the TMF's IT portal ToolPool Health Research.
Workgroup Clinical Studies
Ensuring the Quality of Science-Driven Studies
The Clinical Trials Working Group is at the heart of the cooperation between the TMF and the Network of Coordination Centers for Clinical Trials (KKSN). Under the technical leadership of the KKSN, the workgroup, which has been active since 2004, deals with scientific methodological and regulatory aspects of clinical research.
Workgroup Medical Software and Medical Device Law
Advice and Support for the Software Development Process in Academia and Beyond
The TMF Workgroup Medical Software and Medical Device Law (MSM) focuses on software development in an academic context from a manufacturer's perspective within and outside of medical device law. The focus is on sensitizing the community to regulatory demands, developing Best Practice Standards, developing checklists, software development planning, and an exchange or advice at the level of Peer Reviews.
Workgroup Medical Bioinformatics and Systems Medicine
Checking Molecular Data
Since its founding in 2007, the Medical Bioinformatics and Systems Medicine Workgroup (previously Molecular Medicine Workgroup) has been dedicated to questions of molecular data management, including their linkage with clinical data in the context of disease-oriented genome research. Through the development of increasingly efficient high-throughput methods for genotyping, the amount of data to be analyzed is growing rapidly, as are the associated legal, ethical, organizational, and qualitative demands. The workgroup has carried out several projects on this topic and has run a long-lasting exchange of experience.
Workgroup Network Coordination
Network Management and Sustainability
The coordination of collaborative medical projects comes with specific challenges and questions to which there are often no simple answers or standard solutions and for which the network coordinators or managing directors of the research networks have generally not been primarily trained.
Workgroup Science Communication
Exchange of Experience, Actions, and Training on Strategic Science and Health Communication
The TMF Science Communication Workgroup is a platform that promotes the communication and social discussion of publicly funded biomedical research. Members of the workgroup are primarily communication managers from medical research associations and institutions, but also science managers and scientists themselves. The focus is on exchanging experience, actions, and further training on strategic science and health communication.
Workgroup Zoonoses and Infection Research
Information Exchange and Interdisciplinary Cooperation
Infection and zoonosis research are highly interdisciplinary fields that benefit particularly from cooperation and networking. The Zoonoses and Infection Research workgroup creates standardized tools that improve research into and the prediction and control of zoonoses and other infectious diseases. The workgroup brings together scientists from the fields of human and veterinary medicine as well as basic biomedical research.
Join a Workgroup
In the TMF workgroups, members come together to focus on specific topics. These groups provide opportunities for exchanging experiences and continuing education. Are you interested in participating in one or more of our workgroups? Then please fill out the registration form (German only).
