IT Infrastructure

Data infrastructures must be consistently and systematically established and further developed. This is the only way to significantly improve the data situation in Germany for medical research and better patient care.

Sebastian C. Semler

The focus on a decentralized research data infrastructure is the right approach.

Sebastian C. Semler, TMF Managing Director

Introduction of the Workgroup

The TMF Workgroup IT Infrastructure and Quality Management (WG IT-QM) aims to support the work processes in collaborative medical research projects and contribute to a high quality of processes and results.

The German Portal for Medical Research Data (FDPG)

At the German Portal for Medical Research Data (FDPG), researchers can centrally apply for health data and biosamples from the German university medicine for scientific investigations.

The portal was developed within the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and is operated by the TMF.

Projects on the Topic [German only]

The TMF is a coordinating body for strategically relevant collaborative research projects at national and international levels. It is also involved in many small and large research projects as a specialized partner with a high level of expertise, particularly in legal, data protection, and ethical issues. In addition, it is involved in the development of concepts and project ideas for ministries and scientific institutions - regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Third-Party Funded Project

Since 2016, TMF has headed the coordination office of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFTR), which it operates jointly with the Medical Faculty Association (MFT) and the Association of University Hospitals in Germany (VUD). This is where the staff of the supporting structure work and where the committee meetings take place. This enables close integration with the activities of TMF as the umbrella organization for IT infrastructures and research data management in medicine.

Third-Party Funded Project

Since October 1, 2021, TMF has been coordinating a consortium of high-ranking experts for the conceptual development of genomDE – a nationwide platform for medical genome sequencing that will initially focus on rare diseases and oncological diseases. In addition to leading medical networks and professional associations, patient associations with their specific concerns are also involved in the project. The concept is to be implemented as an innovative component of future standard care in Germany. The legally anchored model project for genome sequencing § 64e SGB V serves as proof of concept for this.

Drittmittelprojekt
