MII and Digital Hubs Symposium 2027
Annual Meeting of the Medical Informatics Initiative and the "Digital Hubs: Advances in Research and Health Care"
In 2016, the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) was launched with the aim of enabling data from healthcare and research to be used across different institutions. Today, thanks to the MII, Germany has a powerful infrastructure that makes large volumes of clinical data available for research, thereby laying the foundations for a new, data-driven approach to medicine. The MII demonstrates how harmonised data and intelligent algorithms can advance disease research. This is made possible by the nationwide establishment of Data Integration Centres (DIC) at all university hospitals, as well as the German Research Data Portal for Health (FDPG), which serves as a central point of contact for researchers wishing to apply for access to data and biosamples.
At the 10th MII Symposium on 17 June 2027 at the Kaiserin Friedrich Foundation in Berlin, we would like to reflect on these achievements while also looking ahead to future challenges at the 2nd Symposium of the Digital Hubs on the preceding day: connecting the data infrastructure already established with the outpatient and regional healthcare sectors. During their second funding phase (2025/26–2029), the Digital Hubs will further develop the cross-sector use of health data and improve healthcare for patients throughout their treatment journeys. This will be achieved by digitally integrating regional networks of medical practices and hospitals and ensuring the most seamless possible flow of data.
An evening event will take place on 16 June 2027. Among other topics, discussions will focus on how the results of the MII and Digital Hubs can contribute to the German Federal Government’s High-Tech Agenda.
The full programme and further information about the symposium will be published on the MII website.
Registration
Registration for the symposium will open in the near future. Participation is free of charge. Registration is required, and places are limited.
Topic
At the joint symposium of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and the Digital Hubs in 2027, we will look back on the achievements of the Medical Informatics Initiative over the past ten years and focus on the challenges that lie ahead.
Conference
At the MII Symposium, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), the current results of the Medical Informatics Initiative will be presented to the (specialised) public. On the preceding day, the Digital Hubs, funded by the BMFTR as part of the MII, will provide insights into their work.
Initiative
Scientists in the fields of medicine, information technology and other disciplines at German university clinics collaborate on the Medical Informatics Initiative, a project funded throughout Germany. Its objective is to digitally connect patient data generated during hospital treatment nationwide. Research can thus be conducted on such data in order to better and faster treat diseases in the future.
