A bilingual eBook on the topic of "European Health Data Space" has been published as part of the "Public Health Research and Data Sharing" conference series organized by Springer Medizin Verlag and workgroup Roche Pharma. It presents examples of data sharing in the healthcare sector and is available for free download in Open Access.

Grenzach-Wyhlen/Munich. Wind, sun, and hydropower are the energy sources of the 21st century - or so they say. However, wind, sun, and hydropower can only be used if an infrastructure converts them into energy, transports them, and makes them usable. The situation is similar with data: it requires an infrastructure that organizes it, makes it analyzable, and accessible according to data governance rules. Such an infrastructure is currently being established in Europe under the heading of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). Health data is being used systematically at national level - for research, better medical care, and greater patient sovereignty.

In several web conferences, Springer Medizin, together with the Roche Pharma workgroup under the patronage of Fraunhofer FIT, supported by the German Cancer Society (DKG), Data Saves Lives, and TMF (Technology and Methods Platform for Networked Medical Research), has shown by means of numerous examples from Europe that cooperation across national borders comes with considerable advantages. These are presented and discussed with regard to an EHDS with international representatives of patient organizations, public health institutions, politicians, and experts from medicine and research. The publication appears as an eBook (German and English) in Open Access.
